 | | The fun pool by night |
I was kept awake half the night with ear-ache. No Lisa wasn't nagging, I seemed to have developed an ear infection. This wasn't good and I had to cancel my diving trip and I booked an appointment with a doctor. So after breakfast it was confirmed that I had an ear infection and was prescribed some drops, painkillers and antibiotics! I had tasted my last Tusker on Kenyan soil!
After spending the morning by the pool (and in the pool, but for me being careful not to get my ear wet) we had lunch. Then with Gwin and Mark we went to the Bombolulu Cultural Centre. This site is a charity that employs disabled people in an effort to give them an income. There is no disability benefit in Kenya. Mainly employed are victims of Polio, with very severe disabilities. We were very impressed to see the work they produced, which included wood carvings, furniture, jewellery, clothing and soap stone carving to name just a few of their products. The work was very high standard and many of the products were for export. They told us that Oxfam in the UK buy a lot of the jewellery for sale in the shops here.
 | | The Witch Doctor |
After looking around the workshops we were shown mock up houses from 7 different tribes from Kenya as well as examples of tribal dancing. In each hut was a guide dressed in the tribal dress of that tribe and they told us some of the customs from that particular tribe. Finally we popped into the centres souvenir shop, where most of the gifts we bought back to the UK came from.
Back at the hotel. I'm sure you've got the hang of the routine, pool, shower, dinner, and bar. The bar had somehow lost its appeal for me now with Tusker being off limits.
