Day
15 Monday 27th November 2001
It wasn't worth going to bed. Up at 3:00am. Showered and got ourselves a tea from the restaurant. We met up with Paul at the front of the hotel and boarded our bus for the airport.
Checking in seemed to take forever qw a whole plane load had turned up at the same time (Package holidays!) but because everyone arrived at the same time, we bumped into Tom and Karen from the Safari. They told us their wedding went without a hitch (Hitch! That was very nearly a joke). We got through passport control OK (getting more stamps in our passport) and after a tour of the duty free shops got on the plane and headed for home.
We sat on the plane waiting to taxi to the runway for what seemed like an eternity, and then we looked back towards the stairs we used to board the aircraft. The small motorised stairs had broken down, with the brakes locked on, so the ground crew were doing their best to drag the assembly away with a tractor. After about 15 minutes of wheel spinning and a lot of burned rubber, they cleared the aircraft enough for us to be on our way.
Arriving at Gatwick we were kicked off the plane, had a body search (external, just in case you were wondering) and all our hand luggage searched before being allowed back on the plane for our final destination, Manchester. I have no idea what that was all about.
Arriving at Manchester, we grabbed our luggage, passed through customs and met up with Terry (Lisa's Dad) and the Holiday was over. All we needed then was a good break to recover.
